to build your guild headquarters you needed a specific resource, which you got from the public guild dungeon, which opened at a specific time only. coupled with the open world pvp/pk you can imagine how much that sucked. their ppl even posted their cash balance on the forums prior to the obt release. back then codex (one of the biggest eu guilds that boast about being competitive in all games) was dominating that one eu server by cashing in hard. then obt started and it was impossible to play without massive lags, so i never played it again.īut since i was in a fairly big guild at the time, ive heard a couple things. My.com really just released that game as a cash-grab with massively expensive founders' packs and multiple post-launch exclusive event bundle deals (that you could only buy with real money, and not with cash shop currency you already paid for.) You'd have to guess that steam is only 10% of the total playerbase to even reach the 1000-2000 mark. That would mean there are now an average of 106 players online in Revelation at any given moment, (using last 2 month average) and the daily peak concurrent players is about 225. If we use that as a guideline for Revelation and give them the benefit of the doubt and say that 1 year isn't long enough (out of 2 total years) for the playerbase to stabilize between the two client options and generously assume that only 33% of the playerbase is on steam. The released numbers (and they release both steam and combined count) show that about 50-60% of players play on their steam client. Path of Exile has been running for 10 9 years, and steam version has been around for ~4-5 years.

If we compare the steam numbers to a different game with a standalone client and steam version, with steam version being released much later than original, and that actually releases player numbers. (Assuming you don't have to repurchase) The absolute peak on steam launch, 1 year after the initial game launch was 576 concurrent players. We don't know exactly how many people play on the my.com launcher but separate launchers aren't ever massively popular within half a year of steam release. The last 3 months it shows as below 70 on the best days. On steam the highest number of concurrent players in the last 6 months was 104 players.
